The third Shaheed Jugraj Singh Memorial Football Cup concluded in Jabbowal village on Monday, with Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO gracing the event as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, minister announced the construction of a new sports stadium in Jabbowal village, with an investment of Rs 1.78 crore, aimed at fostering greater sports participation in the region.

The tournament was organised with the support of Sarpanch Davinder Singh and the Panchayat of the village. The Cabinet Minister said the Punjab Government’s goal, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, was to connect youth with sports. He said this is being achieved through initiatives such as the ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’, which offer youth a chance to showcase their athletic talents. He also noted the new stadium would urge local players to engage in a variety of sports.

The minister said to realise the vision of a “Rangla Punjab,” it was essential to connect the youth to sports grounds and the construction of this stadium was a significant step towards that goal. He highlighted sports foster discipline and also promote physical and mental development. He urged children and young people to participate in sports, stating the effort by the local youth to organise the tournament was a matter of pride.

He also mentioned the state government is committed to promoting sports, with notable recognition given to young athletes excelling in the field, including rewarding them with prestigious positions. He lauded the efforts of the youth in Jabbowal, expressing their work would inspire even more young people to engage in sports.

The event was attended by a number of prominent figures, including Village Sports Club president Daler Singh, Malkit Singh Ladi, Panchayat members Manjit Singh, Angrej Singh, Kanwaljit Singh, Balbir Singh, Surjit Singh, Malkit Singh, Suvinder Singh, Pardeep Singh and many other sports enthusiasts from the village.
