The doors and windowpanes of the house of Mehal Singh were smashed in Marimegha village on Thursday evening when a group of 15 armed persons opened fire at his place. The armed persons were led by Jagrup Singh Jupa, a resident of Marimegha village. Mehal Singh was away to a nearby township of Bhikhiwind. His family members escaped the assault by hiding in rooms.
When Mehal Singh returned to his village, armed assailants led by Jagrup Singh were firing at his house. He was accompanied by Mandeep Singh and Jaswant Singh in a car. Mehal Singh, in his complaint to the police, stated that the assailants who were armed with weapons, came to his house in vehicles. He said they fired indiscriminately at his house. Bullets hit doors and windowpanes, he said.
On watching the firing, Mehal Singh raised an alarm, but assailants managed to flee from the spot. There was a dispute regarding a money transaction between Jagrup and Robanpreet Singh, son of Mehal Singh. The assailants did not want to return money to Robanpreet. In a fit of anger, the suspects fired at Mehal Singh’s house.
