Several radical Sikh organisations have opposed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee's (SGPC) recommendation to the Akal Takht for the excommunication of Narain Singh Chaura from the Panth. The organisations have appealed to the Akal Takht to reject the SGPC's resolution.Chaura was involved in a foiled assassination attempt on former Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was seated at the entrance of the Golden Temple on December 4. Badal was undergoing a religious punishment known as 'tankhah' (religious penance) imposed by the Akal Takht. Following the incident, the SGPC passed a resolution during its executive body meeting, recommending Chaura's excommunication and submitting a memorandum to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh for further action.
