Amritsar: The PG Department of Computer Science & IT in collaboration with IIC of the college organised a two-day Smart Internal Hackathon. The hackathon was conducted as a preliminary selection round for students, who want to participate in the national-level Smart India Hackathon 2024 (SIH-2024). The keynote speaker of the event was Dr Sukrit Gupta, assistant professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar. Aspiring innovators and 15 teams comprising 90 participants submitted their innovative ideas and problem statements. Out of 15 teams, top six teams were nominated for SIH-2024. Dr Amardeep Gupta, principal, DAV College, emphasised that the hackathon is a place to push the skills of students to the next level and motivate them to expand their comfort zone. The students engaged in a diverse range of projects using technologies such as IoT, machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and digital image processing. A team designed a web application to quantify carbon footprints and explore pathways to achieving carbon neutrality in Indian coal mines. An AI-powered tool was also developed to generate Indian Sign Language translations for audiovisual content in English and Hindi, showcasing the application of AI in language accessibility.

2 boxers selected for national games

Amritsar: Two boxers (girls) of Khalsa College Senior Secondary School, Pavani Sharma and Asmeen Kaur, have been selected for the Junior National. The two had participated in the Junior State Boxing Championship (for Girls) held in Malerkotla in which three boxers from Khalsa College Senior Secondary School participated and all three won medals. Pavani Sharma won gold medal in 46 kg and Asmeen Kaur gold in 66 kg and Suneha won bronze medal in 57 kg. When the boxers reached the school, Principal Puneet Nagpal, DP Head of Sports, Jeevan Jot and coach Baljinder Singh welcomed and congratulated them. Principal Puneet Nagpal congratulated Pavani Sharma and Aasmeen Kaur for their good performance in Junior National.

National Sports Day

Amritsar: National Sports Day was celebrated Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, GT Road, celebrated National Sports Day dedicated to the birthday of ‘Hockey legend’ Major Dhyan Chand. The programme started by hoisting the national flag. Spoon race, three leg race, rope skipping, chati race and basketball match were organized in which the students participated with great enthusiasm. Students entertained with folk songs and dances. Kavalpreet Kaur, principal of the school, inspired the students to participate more and more in sports while giving information about the life of Major Dhyan Chand. The winners of the competitions were awarded medals.

SRA gymnastics team wins gold

Amritsar: The under-17 (boys) gymnastics team of Shri Ram Ashram (SRA) Public School won gold medal in the district tournament. The under-14 (boys) team won bronze. The school honoured the u-17 team members, including Armaan Kumar, Pratyush Mehta, Aarush, Kavish Sharma, Krimeet Sahi, Mayank Dhunna, Pratham Mahajan. The u-14 team members included Kartik, Pushkar Kanda, Kartik Mahajan, Devarsh Vij, Rudhraksh, Kaushik Sharma, Gurkirat Singh and Ranveer Sharma.
