Students of the Institute for the Blind were given smart vision glasses, with in-built artificial intelligence (AI) assistive technology to help improve the quality of their lives. These glasses were distributed by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney to mark the Braille Day on January 4. With the aim of transforming the lives of visually impaired students, these smart vision glasses have been enabled with technology features to help them recognise the object in front of them like a traffic light, zebra crossing, a tree etc, and assist in navigating without causing any injury. It also has mobile assistive applications that help them read.

“Using technologies like ‘Machine learning’, ‘Machine vision’ and AI, these glasses have been procured through volunteer donations for our students. We have initially procured 16 glasses and aim to include 40 students under the project to help them lead an independent life and pursue their education,” said Ashok Sethi, president, Institute for Blind.
