Amritsar, February 28

After the news of an escalator lying defunct was highlighted in these columns, the railway authorities rectified anomalies and made it operational.

It provided relief to passengers, especially the old, infirm and physically challenged. Escalators and lifts at the Amritsar railway station often develop snag due to constant working. Daily passengers complain that these machines often develop complications, thereby inconveniencing visitors. A majority of commuters complained that climbing platform stairs was an arduous task as these machines remained out of order frequently.

Commuters face inconvenience while transporting their articles from one platform to another. The situation takes a turn for the worse when both escalators and lifts stop functioning. The facility benefited the elderly and children as they found it tough to climb the stairs at the busy railway station. In December 2013, the escalator was installed at the railway station.
