Snatchers decamp with purse containing gold ornaments worth Rs6 lakh

Snatchings have been a bane in the holy city while the police authorities have failed to curb the same. In a recent incident, unknown motorcycle-borne persons snatched a woman’s purse containing gold ornaments worth over Rs 6 lakh, besides a mobile phone and Rs 6,000. Sunil Joshi, husband of the victim, said he along with his wife was returning from Golden Temple towards Queens Road on E-rickshaw. He said when they were about to reach Bhandari Bridge, two motorcycle-borne persons snatched the purse of his wife. He said his wife had gold ornaments weighing around 15 tola (150 gms), an expensive mobile phone and Rs 6,000.
The police have registered a case under Section 379-B of the IPC while it has failed to make any breakthrough in the case so far.
In another incident, a snatcher was nabbed while he along with his two accomplices was fleeing after snatching a mobile phone. The arrested youth was identified as Prince Singh, alias Mota, of Ekta Nagar located on Chamrang Road. Those managed to flee away from spot were Sajan and Ghulla. The police said raids were on to nab them.
Ashok Kumar, the complainant stated to the police, that yesterday around 6 pm he was returning from his work and reached at Tehsilpura on the rear of Pingalwara when he got a call. He said as he was answering the call, the three accused came from behind and snatched his mobile. Ashok said he immediately raised an alarm. While escaping, the bike of the accused got slipped and the onlookers nabbed Prince.
Police authorities said a case under Section 379-B of the IPC was registered against the suspect while raids were on to arrest his accomplices Sajan and Ghulla.
