Amritsar, August 22
Various social organisations, including Lok Raj and Global Healers, today joined resident doctors at the Government Medical College here in their protest against the rape and murder of a doctor at a hospital in Kolkata.
Members of these organisations said there was a need for a mass public movement to force the government to take steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. Dr Manjit Singh Randhawa of the Lok Raj said, “Society must join hands with doctors in this fight for truth and justice. Ensuing safety of medical professionals and every citizen is responsibility of the government.”
“As and when the government fail to perform its duties, it becomes responsibility of citizens to force those at the helm of affairs to come on the right path and take necessary steps to stop such heinous crimes against women,” Dr Randhawa added.
