Social worker alleges death threat from gangster

A social worker and president of the International Human Rights Organisation, Gurmeet Singh Bablu, has approached the Amritsar Police Commissioner alleging that he received death threats from a sender claiming affiliation with the "Lawrence Bishnoi gang". He has sought immediate security for himself and his family.

According to the written complaint, Gurmeet Singh received the threats on November 17 instant through WhatsApp from an international number. He stated that around 1 pm, while travelling from his residence to his office, he received an abusive and threatening message on his mobile number warning that he would be shot dead and could not escape even if he tried to hide.

The complainant further alleged that the sender claimed to have created a WhatsApp group under the name "Bishnoi Group". Gurmeet Singh termed the threats extremely serious, stating that they posed a direct danger to his life, liberty and property.

He said he immediately lodged a complaint with the police emergency helpline number 112. Gurmeet Singh also pointed out that he had earlier received threats from Pakistan-based numbers and other anti-social elements, for which complaints were still pending.
