The employees of a solid waste management company, Averda, called off their strike after they received their salary here today. However, garbage lifting could not be restored as most of the garbage-collecting vehicles were not in the field.

After a meeting of MC officials with the protesting workers, a few vehicles resumed their work, but most of the employees refused to work unless the company released their pending salaries.

The salary has been disbursed to 720 employees of the company after the meeting of the company employees with the MC Commissioner.

Municipal Health Officer Dr Kiran Kumar said door-to-door collection of garbage would be resumed tomorrow. The Chief Sanitary Inspector and the Sanitary Inspector have been deployed for the removal of garbage lying along roadsides and collection points.

More than 1,500 metric tonnes of garbage got accumulated in the city during the last three days.

Amit Vajpayee, Director of Avarda Company, met MC Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj with regard to the issue. The Commissioner told company officials that the sanitation system of the city and bioremediation work at the dump was not satisfactory. The number of vehicles carrying garbage should be increased as well as machinery at the dump. The company employees should be paid at the earliest.
