The special civic camps organised by the Amritsar Municipal Corporation to regularise illegal water and sewerage connections and to facilitate property tax payments without penalties or interest have received an enthusiastic response from the public, claim MC officials. MC Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh has announced that these camps will be held across the western, southern, northern and eastern zones of the city from June 20 to June 30. The objective is to provide citizens an easy and penalty-free opportunity to comply with civic regulations.

As part of the initiative, a camp was held today in the western assembly constituency at RB Estate, Loharka Road. The event was supervised by Executive Engineer Gurjinder Singh, Nodal Officer and Assistant Commissioner Daljeet Singh, Property Tax Superintendent Dharminderjit Singh and Water Rate Superintendent Satnam Singh.

Residents turned out in large numbers to participate. Many filled out forms to regularise their illegal water and sewerage connections and paid their outstanding property taxes without incurring any interest or penalties. A total of 15 illegal connections were regularised during the camp by collecting the standard fee of Rs 1,650 per case. In addition, awareness was raised about the importance of having legal utility connections. The Property Tax Department also collected around Rs 2.5 lakh from 110 property tax returns filed at the camp.

Additional MC Commissioner Surinder Singh is personally overseeing the camps to ensure citizens face no inconvenience. He urged residents to take advantage before enforcement action begins after the camp period ends.

He further informed that under the government’s one-time settlement scheme, interest and penalties on pending property tax dues are being waived until July 31 this year.
