Amritsar, July 23

Disability can’t limit the ambitions of a person. This has been proven by the children with special needs (CWNS) of Spring Dale School with their performance in the CBSE Class X and XII examination, the results of which were declared yesterday.

Prabhnoor Singh, a student of Class X and enroled under ‘Inclusive Education Program’ of the school, scored 93.6 per cent marks. In Class 12, among the eight students who enroled in the school under the CWSN, Anamika (name changed) scored 87.8 per cent while her classmates also performed well by scoring above 70 per cent marks.

The CWSN students celebrated their achievements with the faculty and parents as they shared their dreams and aspirations. Prerna Khanna, special educator at the school, who has been working on developing the Inclusive Education program of the school, said the performance also marks a decade of the inclusive education at the school as it is the only one doing so in the district.

“Our key feature is ‘Individualized Education Program me’ (IEP) designed by special educators from school, catering to imparting education to up to 100 per cent or total disability such as autism, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, visual impairment and specific learning disability.

Prabhnoor Singh, who got 93.6 per cent in Class X, was detected with degenerative cerebral palsy since Class III onwards. Another student Prabhnoor is wheelchair bound, but his ambitions and hard work is one for all to see. “He is extremely diligent and hard working. He is the member of our Self-Advocacy club,” says Prerna.
