Amritsar: Students of Spring Dale Senior School made their institution proud by winning medals in the 65th School State Gatka Tournament held at Mohali.The school team won two gold in the U-17 category in ‘Singh Stick’ and ‘Farhi Stick Tournament’. The team was adjudged the first runner-up in the under-19 category too. Rajiv Kumar Sharma, Principal, Spring Dale Senior School, said the gatka team was consistently winning tournaments and school student Armanpreet was appreciated for his outstanding performance during the recently concluded 4th Open National Gatka Championship. He congratulated the winning students, their teachers and parents.
Workshop on making of compost
Amritsar: A workshop on “How to use kitchen organic waste to make compost” was organised by the department of botany, DAV College, on the campus of Vivek Public School, as an outreach activity. A total of 100 students along with principal and faculty members attended the workshop. Hands-on training to construct small scale vermi-composting units for the management of organic waste was given to the students during the workshop. Dr Daizy Sharma, head, department of botany, familiarised the students with various problems associated with solid waste and chemical farming. Dr Rajesh Joshi gave a practical demonstration of vermi-composting process to the students and they were trained to construct their own vermin-composting units. School Principal Nidhi expressed her gratitude for successful completion of the workshop.
Lecture organised on ozone layer
Amritsar: BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organised a DBT-sponsored guest lecture on Ozone Depletion by the department of botany. Prof Saroj Arora, department of botanical and environmental sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, was the guest speaker. Saroj discussed different causes of ozone depletion, its consequences and the measure to prevent it. She described about different layers of ozone like troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, etc. and their significance for living beings.
24 students get merit certificates
Amritsar: As many as 24 students of DAV Public School have been awarded merit certificates by the CBSE. The board awards certificate of merit in each subject to the top 0.1 per cent of the successful candidates in order to recognise their qualities and outstanding performance at its Senior School Certificate Examination. Regional officer Punjab zone-A Dr Neelam Kamra and school manager Dr Rajesh Kumar congratulated the students, showered their blessings and wished them success and prosperity in future as well. Dr Neera Sharma, principal of the school, applauded the efforts of students for their brilliant achievement and encouraged them to keep up their hard work and strive for excellence in future as well.
