SSP directs extra courtesy for kin of police martyrs

The next of kin (NoK) of police personnel, who were martyred in the fight against terrorism, will be extended extra courtesy during their visits to police stations and offices falling under all the three sub-divisions of Malerkotla district police.

Sukhdev Singh Brar, Sanjiv Kapoor and Manavjit Singh Sidhu, DSPs at Ahmedgarh, Amargarh and Malerkotla sub-divisions, have been asked to ensure that SHOs and beat officers are familiar with next of kin of all the 10 police martyrs living at localities falling under their respective regions.

Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said a series of meetings of DSPs and SHOs of the district were held with the next of kin of martyred police personnel following celebration of annual Police Commemoration Day on Tuesday with the intent to inquire about issues normally faced by them.

“Having heard a first-hand account of their needs and aspirations from the police department, we have advised all the Circle Officers and SHOs to ensure that felicitation of NoK of police martyrs is not merely a ritual held annually; rather they should feel proud of sacrifices made by them (martyrs) for the whole year,” said Gagan Ajit Singh.

Ten police personnel from localities falling under Malerkotla district were martyred during the fight against terrorism during dark days of in border state of Punjab.

These included Havaldar Pal Singh of Gajjanmajra, Constable Jarnail Singh of Moranwali, Havaldar Kehar Singh of Ratolan village and Havaldar Mohammad Hussain of Rasulpur in Ahmedgarh Subdivision.

Constable Pritpal Singh of Bagrian, PHG Gurcharan Singh of Sangali and Havaldar Vidya Sagar of Manvi village of Amargarh sub-division had sacrificed their lives during the fight against terrorism.

Constable Jaswant Singh of Dhaler Khurad, PHG Karamjit Singh of Hathan village and SPO Harbans Singh of Pharwali village in Malerkotla sub-division were among the police martyrs.
