Gurdaspur: Stern punishment in place, injury cases due to Chinese kite string drop
Gurdaspur, January 21
It was mid-December when Jyoti Mahajan (24) on her two-wheeler, little knowing what was in store for her, was driving through the lanes of the city. As soon as she reached Civil Lines area, she felt something around her neck, followed by severe pain.
She couldn’t balance her scooter and fell down. The culprit was the Chinese kite string (dor), which had got entangled around her neck. Luckily, she did live to tell her frightening story, but only after she had 17 stitches.
There are many more such cases in which victims have got cuts and stitches on their bodies due to the Chinese ‘dor’.
When the DC, Himanshu Aggarwal, came to know of this, he immediately clamped Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act in the entire district. Under this clause, offenders can be sent to jail for five years or will have to cough up a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the spot or both. Besides, the SDM, DSP, and MC Executive Officer (EO) are bound to face action if this kite string is found selling in their areas.
Moreover, SSP Harish Dayama was also asked to use drones to identify people who are using the string.
With all these steps taken, there has been a significant drop in cases of injuries due to the Chinese kite string, according to the doctors and Civil Hospital officials. SDM Amandeep Kaur also got stocks of these confiscated and warned erring dealers of dire consequences.
