Minister for Social Security, Woman and Child Development Department, Punjab, Dr Baljit Kaur and Transport Minister, Punjab, Laljit Singh Bhullar jointly laid the foundation stone of Government Bal Ghar during a function organised at Usman village here on Tuesday. The building would be constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore on 4 acres of village common land. The building could accommodate 50 needy boys.

Dr Baljit Kaur said it would be the sixth Government Bal Ghar in the state after Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur where 238 needy children were residing. The children would stay here up to the age of 18. Besides social security, these children were being given free boarding, lodging, education, health and social security.

She also listened to the grievances of anganwari workers and assured them of resolving their problems. The newborn kids and their mothers were given balanced diet kits and the baby suits. Tarn Taran MLA Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal, Rajinder Singh Usman, Chairman, Improvement Trust, Tarn Taran, Rajnish Arora, SDM, Tarn Taran, Charanjit Singh, Joint Director of the department, were also present.
