Amritsar: The NSS unit of BBK DAV College for Women took oath in continuation of activities carried out to create global awareness about blood donation among youth. Volunteers took pledge to create awareness among their family members, friends, relatives and public about the need for regular, voluntary and unpaid blood donation. They also took pledge to commit themselves to donate blood at their own expenses without any greed, free from caste and religion discrimination and will make relentless efforts so that no life is lost around us due to shortage of blood. Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia encouraged NSS volunteers and staff to donate blood and support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organisations and other non-government organisations in strengthening and expanding voluntary blood donor programmes and achieving the theme of World Blood Donor Day 2022 i.e. “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”.
GNDU declares results
The results of certificate course in German (part time), Semester-II, certificate course in Persian (part time), Semester-II, certificate course in Russian (part time), Semester-II and diploma course in French (full time), Semester-II of session May 2022, have been declared by Guru Nanak Dev University. The results will be available on university website www.gndu.ac.in, said Prof Palwinder Singh, Professor in-charge (Examinations).
First responder programme organised
108 ambulance services on Monday organised a first responder programme at Satya Bharti School , Amritsar. This type of programme was specially organised to make students aware about effective first-aid and its importance whenever an emergency occurs. The programme was organised in the presence of cluster manager Pawandeep Singh and FRP trainer Jaswinder Singh, who gave a clear understanding on how first-aid in emergency situations like CPR, heart attack, bleeding, fracture, snake bite, fainting, choking, and hypoglycemia must be given to the patients. A practical demonstration was also shown to the school students for better understanding, wherein the team showed how emergency cases are well taken care of. Over 40 students attended the training programme.
One-day Seminar on Ashtanga yoga
A one-day seminar was organised by the Department of Philosophy, DAV College, Amritsar on Ashtanga yoga and philosophy of wellness. This programme was organised in collaboration with the Indian Council of Philosophical Research. The chief guests at the seminar were Dr Lallan S Baghel, Punjab University, Chandigarh, and Dr Navpreet Kaur from Azim Premji University, Bengaluru. Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar while addressing the students said Ashtanga yoga was one of the most popular yoga styles and following all steps of Ashtanga yoga helped maintain physical health as well as control diabetes. Dr Baghel, while addressing the students in this seminar, said, “Ashtanga yoga benefits both physical and mental health. In a research related to yoga, it is believed that the yoga practice involved in Ashtanga yoga plays an important role in improving muscle strength, flexibility in body, improving respiratory function, promoting heart function and improving sleep problems.”
Seminar on environment awareness
Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur College for Women, Khalsa College for Women and Khalsa College of Education organised seminar on environment awareness where the students were made aware about the conservation methods and steps to curb climate change. The staff and students also planted different types of saplings and the college heads encouraged them to plant at least one sapling while taking care of the plants. The speakers shared information to prevent health-related damage due to the increasing effects of polluted environment. The Khalsa College for Women formed group cooperative team of the NSS club on the occasion that will work towards environmental protection, planting trees and cleaning of surroundings.
