Pt Mohan Lal SD College for Women student Arshdeep Kaur bags silver in Rajasthan championship
Pt Mohan Lal SD College for Women here is steadily etching its name in the world of sports, emerging as a platform that gives wings to sportspersons.
In its latest achievement, student Arshdeep Kaur won a silver medal in 66-kg (welterweight category) in the Khelo India University Games, which concluded recently at Bharatpur in Rajasthan.
She clinched the medal by defeating Pooja of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Sonepat.
Arshdeep is no stranger to national-level accolades in the field of boxing. Also, she has represented India at the International Boxing Festival in China.
“I aim to be one of the best women pugilists in the country. Right now, I am training with discipline and dedication. To me, success in boxing is a mindset, not a destination. Principal Neeru Sharma has always been a constant source of encouragement for me,” Arshdeep said.
Sharma, who has taken keen interest in the promotion of sports among the college’s students, said Arshdeep’s performance had added a feather to the cap of the college’s sports initiatives.
She has been awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000 prize by GNDU Vice-Chancellor Karamjeet Singh, and, previously, had been selected in national camps organised by the Sports Authority of India.
The boxer, who has become somewhat of a cynosure in the college, is now training hard for the senior national championships.
