Amritsar: The 15-day long summer camp at Spring Blossoms not only enabled the tiny tots to learn several new things, but also helped them explore innumerable exciting ways of imbibing knowledge. Principal Anupama Mehra said the supervised programme developed children’s self-confidence and social skills by providing them opportunities to mingle with other kids of their age and learn new things playfully and meaningfully. The camp entailed activities such as group discussions, brainstorming sessions, yoga, dance, aerobics, dramatics, arts & crafts, news based on facts and current affairs along with age-apt science experiments, interspersed with fun-filled activities. Children were served nourishing and sumptuous meals. The tiny tots were also taught how to churn out delectable delicacies during cookery classes. The fortnight also witnessed other interesting activities like yoga, meditation, dance and craft. Students learnt voice modulation and histrionic skills in the ‘Storytelling and Puppetry’ class. The young campers took the pledge to save the environment and keep their country clean.

Students get jobs

Students of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, brought laurels to the college by bagging placements in INFOSYS. In an online placement drive held by the company, a total of nine students got selected, including eight students of BCA and one student of BSc (IT). The selection procedure included an online aptitude and technical test, which was followed by the HR interview. The company offered an annual pay package of Rs 2,20,000 to those selected. Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia felicitated the students and bestowed her blessings upon them. She also acknowledged the persistent efforts of Manoj Puri, Dean Placements, and his entire team.

Cleanliness drive organised

To celebrate 75 years of NCC, the NCC wing of BBK DAV College for Women initiated a cleanliness drive under Puneet Sagar Abhyaan at Taran Wala bridge canal, Amritsar. Under this drive, cadets of 1 Punjab Girls Battalion picked plastic bags from the surrounding areas of the canal and also raised awareness regarding the harmful effects of plastic amongst the locals. Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia applauded the efforts of the entire NCC wing of the college, and the faculty members Lt (Dr) Amandeep Kaur and Dr Sahil Gupta, for putting in hard work and making this cleanliness drive a success. Nodal officer Dr Shelly Jaggi also accompanied the cadets in this drive.

Infosys Connect Session at GNDU

Directorate of Placement & Career Enhancement, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar organised “Infosys Connect Session” at GNDU. Senior officials from multinational IT company Infosys visited the university to conduct the Pre-Placement Talk. The officials included Anshi Garg, Lead- Talent Acquisition, Infosys, and Dharmender Kumar, Senior Associate Lead, Talent Acquisition, Infosys, Pune. Students from various courses like BTech CSE, BTech. ECE and MCA participated in the Infosys Connect Session. These students are from main campus Amritsar as well as the regional campuses of Jalandhar and Gurdaspur. The officials from Infosys informed the students about their plan to recruit GNDU students at attractive packages. The company also apprised of the latest requirements in Infosys and especially in the IT Sector. Dr Amit Chopra, Asstt Placement Officer said the objective of this session is to prepare students as per requirement of the IT Industry and make them employable in this corporate world. The Placement Department keeps on arranging the visit of experts from the industry on regular basis.

KCET gets NAAC ‘A’ Grade

Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology, Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar established under the aegis of Khalsa College Charitable Society in 2009 has been accredited with grade “A” by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college underwent accreditation cycle-1 as the NAAC peer team visited the campus last week for assessment for academic and other related activities. Dr Manju Bala, Director of the college while informing the media said the college faculty has been working day and night since last one year for this accreditation and finally they were able to get “A” grade during cycle-1 of NAAC. She said that grade was based on criterion wise different weightages viz; curricular aspects, teaching learning process, research and innovation, best practices, governance and management.

UID camp to be organised

UID camp will be organised on June 18 at Government Senior Secondary School, Bhindisenda, for the welfare of persons with disabilities. DID cards will be issued on the spot. Disclosing this, Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh Sudan said this camp was being organised to help the people with disabilities in view of the fact that they had to go round various offices to get their cards. He said that officials of all the departments would be present and on the occasion would issue UID certificates to the persons with disabilities. Sudan appealed to the NGOs to provide this facility in coordination with the disabled persons.

CKD to host grand kirtan darbar

Chief Khalsa Diwan will host a grand kirtan darbar at the gurudwara situated inside Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, GT Road on July 28. On this occasion Chief Khalsa Diwan president Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar said like every year, the kirtan darbar will be dedicated to the incarnation of Guru Har Krishan Sahib. Chief Khalsa Diwan would also honour some prominent personalities of the Sikh community including Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar Sri Kesgarh Sahib Singh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, Head Granthi, Sri Harmandir Sahib Singh Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh Ji and other religious, social eminent personalities. He said an exhibition related to the life of Guru Sahib would also be set up on this occasion.
