The District Food and Civil Supplies Department has suspended the supply to as many as 26 ration depots, while terminating the licence of seven depot holders in the last two months.

The action was taken following finding irregularities in the distribution of ration to beneficiaries, said Sukhwinder Singh Gill, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller, in a statement. He said the guilty ration depot holders were found violating norms of the National Food Security Act, while distributing ration to beneficiaries. Gill said the department was receiving complaints regarding this and hence action was required.

He said since March 28, the department had suspended the supply of 19 government ration depots, while the supply of essential commodities to seven depot holders were suspended this month.

He said the department also took cognizance of indifferent attitude of seven depot holders in supplying essential goods to beneficiaries and terminated their licences. —
