Local orthopedic surgeons, at a private hospital, have successfully performed a robotic knee – replacement surgery on a 115-kg female patient. “Precision and quick rehabilitation has always been a challenge for knee-replacement surgery for obese patients but with robotic knee surgery technique, the target could be achieved successfully,” said Dr Avtar Singh, chief orthopedics and joint replacement surgeon at Amandeep Hospital.
He added that the patient Baljinder Kaur, a resident of Kajiwal village with a weight of 115-kg was undergoing severe pain, depression, grief, disability and could not walk. Her condition was getting worse with the time, he said adding that the patient was unable to work and was almost bed ridden.
With the robotic technique, the weight is not an issue anymore, said the surgeon. “Robotic knee replacement enjoys very high precision and less blood loss and no bone loss,” he said. He claimed that the patient started walking on the third day of surgery.
