Tarn Taran bypoll: Commissioning of EVMs begins

As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, the commissioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs) to be used in the by-election of Assembly Constituency 021–Tarn Taran began today in the presence of General Observer Pushpa Satyani. On this occasion, Returning Officer Gurmeet Singh and representatives of various political parties were also present.
The strong room was first opened in the presence of the General Observer to begin the EVM commissioning process. Booth-wise preparation and checking of the machines were carried out as part of the procedure.
Providing details about the process, Returning Officer Gurmeet Singh informed that there are 222 polling stations in the Tarn Taran Assembly Constituency. For the election, 120 per cent ballot units (BU) and control units (CU), along with 130 per cent voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines, have been provided to ensure a sufficient reserve in case of any malfunction. — OC
