The employees of Deputy Commissioner’s organised a dharna at the District Administrative Complex (DAC) on the 12th day of their pen-down strike to protest against their en masse transfer. The pen-down strike by the employees badly affected normal work at the DC office. The employees were agitating under the banner of the ‘District DC Employees Association, Tarn Taran’. Karwinder Singh Cheema, district president, Shivkaran Singh Cheema, general secretary, Hardarshan Singh and Navtej Singh were among those who addressed the gathering. The employee leaders said that the DC has transferred 76 employees during the off season which was against the norms as the state government had ordered no transfers till the end of June. The employee leaders said that the transfers were against the stipulated guidelines.
The leaders claimed that the Deputy Commissioner in a meeting with the employee leaders assured to consider their demands sympathetically but nothing has been done so far. The union leaders alleged that the public was being harassed due to the adamant attitude of the administration. The leaders warned that in case their transfers are not cancelled by February, they would be left with no option but to intensify their agitation from February 5. The leaders said that the transfers would affect on their performance and it would be mentioned in their Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs). The leaders said that a number of employees have been transferred to Patti and Khadoor Sahib towns from Tarn Taran which has disturbed their family life, particularly the education of their children.
