Members of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee and residents of Dall village have demanded that the government must cancel the transfer orders of Tarn Taran Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa. He had taken the charge on May 5. According to information, he got over 300-acre common land, including 100-acre land of Harike Panchayat, of different gram panchayats vacated from encroachment. During his period, the department collected revenue worth Rs 15.35 crore from the auction of 5,869-acre common land. It was Rs 12.29 crore last year. Sources claim the reason behind his transfer was that he failed to protect interests of some political bosses. Residents of Dall village alleged that 43 acres of the common land in the village were allotted to some close associates of the ruling party. The villagers objected the move and the administration got the reauction conducted that went up to Rs 23.6 lakh.

Poor civic amenities in Tarn Taran town cause a lot of inconvenience to the residents. Mohinder Singh, a Nanaksar locality resident, said they had approached the Municipal Council authorities several times to ensure that sewage manholes are kept covered but to no avail. Satnam Singh Matharu, former Municipal Councillor, who had joined the AAP, said the problem persists in all six wards of the locality. He said streetlights were lying non-functional and the authorities concerned were not paying heed to residents’ complaints. Matharu alleged that there was lack of drinking water facility in many localities. Not even a single public toilet has required facilities and the authorities concerned must look into the issue, he said. (Contributed by Gurbaxpuri)
