There is much to learn from the message being conveyed by the Government Senior Secondary Smart School for Boys, Naushehra Pannuan. The school has not only planted beauty plants but also given them an attractive shape so that they can charm others. Beauty plants refer to a variety of specimen which includes flowering trees, fragrant plants, fruits and shrubs. All these are the efforts of Sukhwinder Singh, principal of the school and his staff who have instilled affection toward nature among the students. All this is being done despite odds as the school does not have a post of Mali (gardener). It is because of interest in nature that the principal and staff have created a unique scenario in the school complex. The principal said that attraction for plants has created awareness among students too. No student of the school plucks flowers or even touches them. Special arrangements have been made to water the plants with the help of an underground system in the complex, said the principal. The school principal has made arrangements for a Mali (gardener) on his own. The school atmosphere delivers a positive message to residents of the area, especially for other educational institutions. Kanwalpreet Singh Pannu, state president, Kisan Sangharsh Committee, Punjab and a resident of the village who is also an alumnus said that the school has always been on top for decades. He said that there were all streams — arts, commerce, medical, non-medical, vocational — up to the senior secondary level but at present only arts subjects were being taught and the students of the area have to go to far off places to study other subjects. He said that even then, the department was unconcerned toward the school as the post of English lecturer was lying vacant. The school was also without a physical education teacher. As a result, the students were losing their scope to achieve more in the field. He said that in this way, higher education of the new generation was getting affected and the state government must think over it. The school must be given a Mali (class IV employee) so that care and nurture of plants can convey a good message to society, specially the educational institutions.

Commuters dread stray animals

Stray animals, especially dogs, have become a serious threat to the peace of residents in Tarn Taran town. It is a problem which Tarn Taran AAP MLA Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal has been taking up regularly. He used to raise his voice frequently and four years back warned the administration that stray animals, specially dogs, would be locked up in the office complex of the Municipal Council in case the officials failed to resolve the threat of stray animals. The stray dogs posed a threat to the devotees coming to pay obeisance at Darbar Sahib in Tarn Taran in the morning. Animal waste is often seen in the bazaars and streets every day which remains lying for days. The stray dogs are a major threat in Muradpur, Gokalpur, Jaswant Singh Mohalla, Noodri Adda, garbage dump situated on Sachkhand road and localities inhabited by the poor sections of society.
