Tarn Taran Diary: Police stumble upon fake medico-legal report scam
The busting of a gang by the police involved in inflicting fake injuries to get forged medico-legal report (MLR),just to take revenge on their rivals has come as an eye-opener. It is a reality that there is a section in society which is an expert in causing injuries on themselves just to harass their personal rivals. On the basis of the MLR, they get serious criminal cases registered against their opponents in connivance with the gangs that have been in existence for decades. The involvement of the leaders of the parties in power, officials of the health department, policemen and others too have played a key role in such cases. The district police, in a first ever instance, arrested three of a four-member gang which was involved in such activities. A related incident happened in the border village of Sabhra in the month of November last year. One Sukhchain Singh of Sabhra village was injured in an attack by a group of armed men led by Gurvinder Singh of the same village. The Patti Sadar police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS in this regard against Gurvinder Singh and his seven other associates. In a new development, Gurvinder Singh inflicted fake injuries on self and got an MLR from the Civil Hospital, Khemkaran. He registered a cross-case against his rivals, including Sukhchain Singh, the complainant in the case, registered already by the same Patti Sadar police. Sukhchain Singh raised questions over the new development when Gurvinder Singh registered a cross-case with the same Patti Sadar police. He submitted a complaint to the SSP in this regard who formed a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the complaint of Sukhchain Singh. The SIT, in its report, revealed that Gurvinder Singh got a fake MLR by paying Rs 45,000 to a team which included two employees of the Civil Hospital, Khemkaran, and a private person besides Gurvinder Singh. The employees of the Civil Hospital included a supervisor and a Class IV employee. The third, a private person, is said to be an expert in inflicting fake injuries as per the requirement, which includes simple as well as grievous injuries for even attempt to murder cases too. Gurvinder Singh is the fourth accused in the case. It is believed to be a mere tip of the iceberg as the big fish too are working behind the scene. It is a nation-wide phenomenon manifest in some way or the other in which the involvement of certain officials of the health department cannot be denied. Though there are provisions to fight against such a threat, it is not easy task. Therefore, the act of the district police deserves appreciation for showing the way.
Frequent thefts cause trouble at govt school
Frequent theft incidents have occurred at the Government Elementary School, Kakka Kandiala, in the last few months, causing trouble for the school students, staff and village elders. In a recent incident, a large number of equipment and apparatus were stolen from the school, including the utensils being used for preparing mid-day-meal. Gurinder Singh, husband of former Sarpanch Baljit Kaur of the village, said that with the cooperation of the villagers, Head Teacher Parminder Kaur is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the progress of the school by providing every possible facility to the school students. Gurinder Singh said that the head teachers had bought heavy locks after the first two theft incidents to ensure safety. Gurinder Singh said that the thieves, by breaking open the locks of the main gate and of all the rooms in the school, stole the tubewell motor, water-tapes installed for water supply, computer, CCTV cameras, utensils including big-sized patilas and other vessels used to prepare mid-day meal for the students, gas cylinder and other stuff. The villagers said that the police visited the school after every theft incident but no case has been registered yet. Due to the theft of the tubewell motor, the staff and students had to face great inconvenience as they had to go either to nearby houses or to the village gurudwara for water. Gurinder Singh said schools are just like religious places, and people who committed theft deserve the strictest punishment. Head Teacher Parminder Kaur said she does not want to work anymore under the prevailing circumstances. There have been more reports of thefts being committed in other government schools of the district.
