With the arrest of two persons, the Tarn Taran police claimed to have solved an extortion case involving threats made to a local farmer. The incident was found to be part of an attempt to seize the victim’s four-acre plot of land. The arrested persons have been identified as Nishan Singh of Jagatpura village in Chabal, and Gursahib Singh of Mehandipur village in Khemkaran.

Meanwhile, the police have also named two Dubai-based individuals in separate cases for allegedly making extortion calls to local farmers while posing as gangsters.

Sharing details of the cases, SP (D) Ajay Raj Singh said in the first case, a resident of Jagatpura village reported to the police that he owned four acres of land, which he had leased to his uncle, Nishan Singh, for 12 years. After the lease ended, he resumed cultivation himself, but claimed his uncle began obstructing his access to the fields and started threatening him. He further alleged that Nishan Singh had connections with gangsters.

According to the complaint, since June 5, the victim began receiving threatening calls from virtual numbers, with callers impersonating gangsters and attempting to intimidate him into giving up the land. Based on technical surveillance, the police identified Gursahib Singh as a suspect and uncovered his links to Nishan Singh. A raid was conducted and both men were arrested.

In a separate incident, Bhikhiwind police booked Mandeep Singh, a Dubai-based resident originally from Valtoha, for allegedly threatening a resident of Bhagwanpura village and demanding Rs 35 lakh in extortion. Posing as a gangster, he threatened to harm the victim and his family if the demand was not met.
