Tarn Taran residents demand end to garbage nuisance near post office

Despite being aware of the situation, the local municipal council has failed to provide relief to residents and office staff who endure the stench throughout the day. The road remains busy with continuous traffic, as a large number of people visit the post office and the nearby telephone exchange to lodge mobile and landline-related complaints.

Commuters have complained that the stretch has become unbearable due to the persistent dumping. Jasbir Singh Thekedar, former president of the Municipal Council, said he had repeatedly met officials to seek a permanent solution, but the problem recurs within a day or two of temporary cleaning.

“Stray dogs often gather here to rummage through the waste, creating panic among pedestrians,” he added.

When contacted, Kamaljit Singh, Executive Officer (EO) of the Municipal Council, admitted that the issue had been troubling him as well. He said the council has already made arrangements for door-to-door garbage collection across the town, but some residents continue to dump waste in public areas. “In future, legal action will be taken against those who persist with such behaviour,” he warned.
