Tarn Taran, July 29

Finally, residents of some villages have come forward to renovate a 5-km-long link road, which had been totally damaged for over the last eight years. The link road, part of the 20-km Sheron-Mundapind stretch, had been broken for the last eight years. Though the whole stretch cries for repairs, the link road has been totally shattered.

The residents, specially gram panchayats, had been appealing to the state government and the district administration to repair the road, but no one was ready to redress the genuine grievance of the villagers. The link road connecting Sheron, Rakh Sheron, Dugri and Dhotian villages has become the root cause of several fatal road accidents.

Sarup Singh, international handball coach and resident of Dhotian village, said in a recent accident on the road, a youth was killed on the spot while his father is battling for life at a hospital. Sarup Singh said residents of the affected villages collected money and started repairing the road on their own from today. He said all the norms of the department would be followed while repairing the road. The residents condemned the authorities concerned for not resolving their genuine problem for years.
