Tarn Taran’s progressive farmer honoured with memorial award at PAU’s Kisan Mela

Progressive farmer Chanan Singh from Tarn Taran was conferred with the Ujagar Singh Dhaliwal Memorial Award during the two-day Kisan Mela organised at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. The award was presented by Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, PAU Vice-Chancellor.

A resident of Patti village, Chanan Singh has over 21 years of farming experience and is known for adopting innovative and sustainable agricultural practices. During the Rabi season, he cultivates wheat, turnip and carrot, while in Kharif season, he grows bitter gourd, round gourd, okra, watermelon, along with paddy and basmati. He is also engaged in carrot seed production and crop diversification with oilseeds, vegetables and fruits.

Practicing organic farming for the past six years on his five-acre land, Singh incorporates green manure and Jiv-amrit to maintain soil health and produces odourless fertiliser using waste decomposer. He has installed an underground pipeline for efficient water use, developed his own method for direct-seeded rice and employs modern farm machinery such as the Happy Seeder, Super Seeder

and Mulcher.

Guided by PAU’s Farm Advisory Service Centre and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran, Singh remains updated with the latest technologies. He also shares agricultural information with fellow farmers through social media platforms. His efforts have earned him recognition from several institutions and organisations.
