Several persons manhandled State Tax Officer Davinder Singh and his staff when he stopped a truck carrying scrap near the Ghanshampur bus stop here on Friday.
The police have registered a case against 11 persons and impounded the truck (PB-06-K- 2034) laden with scrap while the accused fled the spot. Among those booked included Manjit Singh of Rangar Nangal village and Gurdev Singh, alias Saba, of Batala.
Davinder Singh, State Tax officer, State Intelligence and Private Unit (SIPU), here told the police that he along with constable Lakhbir Singh and other staff members were checking at the Ghanshampur bus stop when they signalled a truck to stop and demanded to show the documents regarding the scrap laden on it.
He said the driver, identified as Manjit Singh of Rangar Nangal, came out of the truck and showed some documents, including bills, which were found to be fake. He was asked to take the truck to the Mehta police station, but the accused started arguing with him and called his accomplices. They manhandled them and assaulted them and fled the spot.
Following his complaint, the police have registered a case under Sections 186 (obstructing government servant from discharging his duty), 353 (assaulting and obstructing government servant while discharging his duty) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code against the accused.
