Teacher among 4 held for robbery

The police have arrested a government school teacher among four persons in connection with a dacoity at a house on January 4. The police recovered Rs 40,000 cash, a bike used in the crime, a pistol, a car and a mobile phone from the possession of the suspects.

Those arrested were identified as Jagjit Singh, alias Jagga, a resident of Jugial Colony, Pathankot, now residing at Chak Sikander falling under the Jhander police station here, Prabhjot Singh, alias Prabh, a resident of Bhagwanpura in Gurdaspur, Amarpreet Singh, alias MP, a resident of Chak Sikander village, now residing at Silver Oak locality on the Loharaka road, and Sukhnoor Singh, alias Noor, a resident of Bhagwanpur.

Amarpreet was a teacher at the government high school in Jandor village while Sukhnoor was a school bus driver. The suspects had looted Rs 1.5 lakh from a house and fired two gun shots. The victims had a narrow escape in the firing incident.

Prabhjot Singh Virk, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, said Pankaj Agarwal, a resident of Akash Avenue, located on Fatehgarh Churian road, told the police that he and his family was present in his house on January 3 night. He said two unknown persons with covered faces entered the house after opening the gate. He said they pointed a pistol at him and his children and demanded cash and jewellery and threatened to shoot them in case they raised an alarm.

The suspects snatched their two mobiles phones and took Rs 1.5 lakh from drawer of a wardrobe. He said on hearing noise, his father came out of his room. He said the suspects threw his father on the floor and shot at him, but he had a narrow escape. He said later, the duo decamped with cash and mobile phones. Pankaj said when the suspects were fleeing, he tried to chase them, but they opened fire at him. The suspects fled after leaving their bike on the spot.

Virk said during investigation, the police zeroed in on the suspects, who were arrested and produced in a court, which sent them to police remand.
