A delegation of Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF), including government school teachers from Amritsar, met the Director of School Education (Secondary), Gurinderjit Singh Sodhi. Led by state president Vikramdev Singh and general secretary Mahinder Kaurwali the delegation took up several departmental matters that have long
been ignored.
State finance secretary-cum- Amritsar district president Ashwini Awasthi said the teachers discussed issues related to recast lists, transfers, promotions and pending regularisations that needed to be resolved. In Punjab, the recasting of appointment lists for elementary teacher training (ETT) teachers, specifically the 6635 ETT positions, has led to some teachers being excluded from the list. This situation has caused concern among teachers and resulted in the District Teachers’ Front (DTF) demanding that the Education Minister protect the jobs of those affected by the recasting process.
“Teachers of various cadres (ETT 6635, Master Cadre 3704 and English 899 posts) were excluded from the appointment lists due to recasting. The Director of School Education assured us that in the future the teachers excluded from the recast lists will not be issued notices unless there is a technical problem,” he said.
