The Civil Surgeon’s office here today organised a district-level one-day training for school teachers under the National Blindness Control Programme. The initiative was undertaken as per the orders of the government, with the primary objective of enabling school teachers to identify children with eye diseases and low vision.

The main goal of the programme is to screen schoolchildren, ensuring that they receive timely treatment, said Civil Surgeon Dr Kirandeep Kaur as she emphasised that the department’s school health teams are already conducting screenings in schools.

However, training school teachers can help them play a vital role in identifying children with low vision, facilitating early treatment and providing free spectacles to those in need. The training programme is aimed to equip school teachers with the necessary skills to detect eye problems in children.
