Tarn Taran, August 3
Thieves struck at two shops of established businessmen in Adda Bazar on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday and decamped with cash and valuable articles.
The thieves also struck at three shops in the local Chaunk Bhan Singh on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday and took away cash worth lakhs and other material. The proprietors of the two shops, ‘Kala Boot House’ and ‘Raju Shoes’, situated in Adda Bazar, said that the thieves entered by breaking open the doors from upstairs. They entered the shop and away Rs one lakh in cash and other material from Kala Boot House and Rs 7,000 in cash from Raju Shoes.
Gurinder Singh Ladi, president, Adda Bazaar Dukandar Association, said that a few days back, shopkeepers in the town had closed their shops in protest against incidents of frequent theft and the DSP and SHO City had assured the shopkeepers of intensifying night security, but the situation had not improved. He said the shopkeepers have decided to submit a memorandum to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) today and would continue their protests against the administration if the theft incidents did not abate.
