Three arrested with weapons smuggled from Pak via drones

Preliminary investigations indicate that accused were in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers

In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested three persons and recovered sophisticated arms and ammunition from their possession.

The arrested have been identified as Satnam Masih, alias Pattu, and Vishal Masih, both residents of Gurchakk village, falling under the Dera Baba Nanak police station in Gurdaspur, and Raja Masih of Kuralian village falling under the Ramdas Police Station here.

Gurinderpal Singh Nagra, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Investigations), Amritsar Rural Police, sharing details said during routine patrolling near T-point at Pandori, a team of the Special Cell arrested the accused and recovered a Glock pistol along with two magazines, a .30 bore pistol with two magazines, four live 9mm rounds, and a CT-100 motorcycle on which they were riding.

Following the recovery, a case under Sections 25 (8), 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered at the Ramdas police station here.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers and were receiving weapon consignments through drones for onward supply. The police are probing their forward and backward links to expose the entire network.

Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in cross-border smuggling and illegal arms supply.
