Three drug traffickers arrested with heroin, revolver

The Gharinda police have arrested three individuals involved in cross-border drug trafficking and recovered significant contraband. The suspects, all from different villages in Tarn Taran district, were apprehended in the Khasa area. The arrested individuals have been identified as Akashdeep Singh from Mastgarh village in Khemkaran (now Valtoha), Gurbax Singh alias Babbal from Patti and Simranpreet Singh from Mugal Chakk Pannuan village.

According to Charanjit Singh, SSP of Amritsar Rural, the police acted on intelligence that the trio was involved in smuggling drugs and weapons across the border and distributing them in various areas along the border belt. He said based on a tip, the police intercepted a car with a Punjab registration number travelling from Chheharta to Gharinda. During the search, the police recovered 450 gm of heroin and a .32-bore revolver with four live rounds.

The SSP said a case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. The police are continuing their investigation to trace the suspects' connections and to uncover any additional contraband. The trio has been remanded in police custody and further arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
