Amritsar: The Lopoke police have booked unknown couple for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by making Tik Tok video at Ram Tirath Temple here. The incident occurred on Friday. However, the incident came to light when the same got viral and came to the knowledge of the security at the temple. A case under Sections 294 and 295 of the IPC and Section 67 of the IT Act has been registered against them. Baljit Singh, security supervisor, stated to the police that a video got viral in social media where a young girl and a boy were seen dancing in the parikarma of the temple on a Punjabi song promoting liquor. This has hurt the sentiments of the devotees visiting there. TNS

Car taken away at gunpoint

Amritsar: Two unidentified armed persons snatched a car from two persons who were returning home after attending a function in the city on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The incident occurred near Waryam Nangal village, 24 km from here. Kulwant Singh, a resident of Gokhuwal village in Batala, said he and his friend Ranbir Singh stopped for a toilet break near Waryam Nangal village. When they came out of the car, two unidentified persons came and, brandishing pistols, snatched the car keys and drove away. The police have registered a case. TNS

Man robbed of Rs 12K, cell phone

Amritsar: Two unidentified persons armed with sharp weapons snatched mobile phone and purse from Nirvail Singh of Sultanwind by throwing red chilli powder in his eyes. Nirvail Singh said he was outside his house, talking on his phone, when suspects came and threw chilli powder. They snatched his mobile and purse containing Rs 12, 000 cash and documents. When he tried to resist them, they attacked him with sharp weapons and fled from the spot, he said. A case under section 379-B (2) of the IPC has been registered at the Sultanwind police station. Snatching incidents have become an order of the day in the holy city while the police authorities have failed to curb the same. TNS

31-yr-old Woman commits suicide

Tarn Taran: A 31-year-old woman committed suicide at her residence in Patti by hanging herself with a ceiling fan on Sunday. She left behind a daughter and a son. In her suicidal note, Pinki said she was despaired over the beautician business failure. She hanged herself with a piece of cloth. OC

Ravidas jayanti celebrated

Amritsar: Several programmes were held on the occasion of 643rd birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas here on Sunday. Guru Ravidas Temple outside the Hall Gate was beautifully decorated where devotees made a beeline to pay their respects. Cabinet Minister OP Soni also paid obeisance at the temple. He announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh to Kendriya Ravidas Temple and another Rs 2 lakh for the Guru Ravidas Sudhar Sabha Chitta Katra. OC
