Kathunanal police have booked the driver of the tipper truck for the late night road mishap that claimed two lives while injuring 25 other bus passengers. The incident occurred near Gopalpura village falling under Kathunangal police station here.
Sub-inspector Narinder Singh, investigating officer, said that the deceased were identified as Rajwinder Kaur and a 13-year-old boy, Sehajdeep Singh, both residents of Amritsar.
The unknown driver of the bus had escaped from the scene. The police have seized the truck and the private bus involved in the mishap and efforts are on to identify the truck driver, sub-inspector Narinder Singh said.
The injured were admitted to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Medical Sciences, Civil Hospital apart from some private hospitals for treatment. The condition of a few of them is stated to be serious, the police said.
Vicky, a resident of Kot Mit Singh area here, told the police that he along with his wife Chandni was returning to Amritsar from Pathankot in a private bus bearing the registration number PB-02-CC6780 yesterday. He said when they reached near Gopalpura village, a tipper truck (PB-02-BV-9092) was taking a U-turn from a divider in an abrupt manner due to which the bus driver lost control and collided with the it. Due to this, several passengers were feared dead while many were injured.
