Traffic police teach road safety rules to schoolchildren

The traffic education cell of Traffic Police along with Swachh Bharat Mission authorities held an awareness seminar at Government Senior Secondary School at Putlighar to mark National Road Safety month here yesterday.

Cops asked the children to obey traffic rules in letter and spirit and not to indulge in triple riding, jump the red light and hooliganism on roads which can prove fatal.

Sub-Inspector Daljit Singh, in charge, traffic education wing, advised the students to wear helmets while driving a two-wheeler and tie the seat belt while driving cars. The cops asked the students to further advise their parents and family members to follow the traffic norms for safety. They also informed them about the problems of underage driving.

Mandeep Kaur, coordinator, Swachh Bharat Mission, Municipal Corporation, motivated the children to maintain cleanliness around them and make the environment free of garbage and other pollutants. She asked them to throw garbage in dustbins and maintain hygiene.

The cops also held a seminar for vegetable sellers in Gwalmandi area. They told them about the causes of frequent traffic jams and encouraged them to follow traffic norms.
