Two arrested with drugs, cash in Amritsar

Amritsar: The police have arrested two persons for allegedly possessing drugs. Baljinder Singh of New Gurnam Nagar on Sultanwind Road was arrested by the Sultanwind police for possessing 50-gm heroin. The police also seized nine mobile phones along with a gas lighter, motorcycle and Rs 3,000 cash from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act and Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC was registered against him. The police authorities said during preliminary probe, the mobile phones were found to be stolen. Meanwhile, the Division B police nabbed Rajinder Singh alias Ravi Baba Deep Singh Nagar on the Tarn Taran road and confiscated 8 gm of drugs along with Rs 55,000 drug money. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against him. TNS

Fire breaks out at ATM booth

Amritsar: A fire broke out in an ATM booth of Yes Bank in front of Guru Ramdas Hospital at 5.45 pm in Chattiwind Chowk on Sunday evening. The ATM booth was completely gutted in the fire. On receiving information, two fire brigade vehicles of the Municipal Corporation reached the spot. Head fireman Naresh Kumar said the fire was doused in 15 minutes by firemen Kanwaljit Singh, Jaswinder Singh and driver Lakhwinder Singh. Sub-Fire Officer Anil Luthra said, “There are four ATMs of other banks around the ATM and it is a very busy market.” No human loss has been reported in the incident. TNS

Tablas donated to orphanage

Amritsar: The Union Bank of India donated 300 cloth sheets and turbans, 10 harmoniums, tabla and other items to the Central Khalsa Orphanage here on Sunday. A Manimekhalai , Managing Director and CEO of Union Bank of India, along with her colleagues Arun Kumar (GM), Sansar Chand, DGM and Regional Head, handed over the articles to the inmates and the management of the orphanage, which is being run by the Chief Khalsa Diwan. She appreciated the efforts of the Diwan in nurturing the future of the inmates. The officers were warmly welcomed by the inmates led by orphanage member incharge Mohanjit Singh Bhalla. The children first sang the welcome song and then Amrit Bani.
