The Lopoke police have booked two persons on charges of culpable homicide after a youth identified as Peter Masih, a resident of Shahpur village, allegedly died of drug overdose a week ago.

The police had initiated inquest proceedings after finding an unidentified body near Sodia village on January 31. The identity of the body was established through pictures which went viral on the social media.

On the statement of Jagar Masih, a relative of the deceased, the police booked Akash Masih and Sahil Masih, both residents of Shahpur village falling under the Bhindi Saida police station here. The police arrested Akash in the case while Sahil was absconding.

Jagar in his supplementary statement to the police stated that deceased Peter Masih was his brother-in-law. He was living with him for the past 11 years. He said on January 30, Peter went with Akash, but did not return till evening. Next day a video went viral on social media about a youth, who died of an alleged drug overdose, near Sodia village.

He alleged that Akash and Sahil had given Peter drug overdose that led to his death. The duo was booked under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) and 34 of Indian Penal Code.

Investigating Officer ASI Baldev Singh said Akash and Sahil were also drug addicts. He said raids were on to nab Sahil who was at large.
