Chamman Lal Setia, a local philanthropist, has gifted two portable ECG machines to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. An exporter, Setia has also promised Rs10,000 every month to the hospital for arranging medicines for poor patients at the emergency ward.
Medical Superintendent Dr JS Kular said: “Setia has been helping the hospital in various manners. Earlier, he gifted wheelchairs, dengue-testing kits and other items.” Dr Kular said the hospital management was thankful to the philanthropist for his kind act.
“Many kind-hearted people visit the hospital to know about the needs of patients and the hospital. Many help poor patients by directly contacting them or by bettering infrastructure.” Setia said many poor people were not prepared for emergency situations and face problem in getting medicines or other services. He said he wanted to help poor patients as the hospital had saved lives of two of his sons during the times of insurgency in the state.
