Two held for firing outside residence of girl’s fiance

The incident had occurred on April 26 while the accused was arrested by the police only yesterday.
Apart from the prime accused Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Dashmesh Nagar, Kot Khalsa, the police had also arrested his accomplice, Sunny of Kot Atma Ram locality. The police have recovered a .32 bore pistol, along with the motorcycle, used in the crime.
Dr Sheetal Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (East), said that Davinder Singh of Mohkampura lodged a complaint with the police that he along with his brother Sonu Sharma used to work in a flex board manufacturing firm in Chandigarh. He said he was engaged to a girl in Judge Nagar area while the accused Gurpreet Singh used to live in her neighbourhood.
He said that Gurpreet put pressure on the girl and her family to marry him but the girl refused. The accused then asked Davinder to call off his proposed marriage with her, but he also refused. Perturbed over this, he along with his unknown accomplice, fired at the house of Davinder on April 26.
The ACP said that Gurpreet was recently arrested and during interrogation, he said that he had given the weapon to his friend Sunny while the bike belonged to Sharanjit Singh. He said Sunny was nabbed on Tuesday and the police seized the pistol from him. He said efforts were on to nab Sharanjit Singh.
