Two revenue patwaris drowned in the Kasur Branch Lower (KBL) canal near Kacha Pakka village last night. Their bodies have been recovered. The two were identified as Ranjodh Singh (28) of Narli and Harjinder Singh (30), a resident of Bhikhiwind.
After the postmortem conducted at the Civil Hospital, Patti, these have been handed over to the families of the deceased. Sub-inspector Amrik Singh, SHO, Kacha Pakka informed that the deceased were on way back to their house in a Honda city car at about 10.30 pm from Harike when some vehicle appeared from the front. They lost control over their Honda city car and it fell into the canal.
The SHO said that as the spot was nearer to the police station, he along with a police force immediately reached the spot and initiated rescue operations by stopping the flow of water in the canal. He said the car of the deceased was locked from inside and canal water entered the car which made it difficult for the patwaris to come out. The SHO said that after the car of the deceased was taken out of the canal, they were brought to the Civil Hospital, Patti, where doctors declared them dead.
On the basis of the statement of Harpreet Singh, brother of the deceased Ranjodh Singh, the police have lodged a report (DDR) under Section 174 of the CrPC. Ranjodh Singh was married just three years back and has a one-year-old son.
