Dr Subhash Sarkar, Union Minister of State for Education, desired for commercially viable programmes from IIM, Amritsar, aimed at the betterment of society. Flanked by Prof Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, IIM, Amritsar, Director, in an interactive session with the students of IIM held here on Sunday, Sarkar asked for their choices, career goals and other educational and qualification priorities.
Recounting the unprecedented depth and scale of research that went into the formulation of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, he explained how this policy was related to every aspect of life. He also highlighted the shift to experiential learning in the NEP. The MoS emphasised the need for learning communication and presentation, which he described as a balance between speaking and listening.
Talking on the slogan of Atmanirbhar Bharat, he felt that India can stand up by imparting education meticulously and holistically with technological advancement in functional areas such as genomics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, etc. He appealed to the students of the institute to hold motivational events for those who fail to do well in Class X or XII exams.
The IIM Director highlighted the increase in the number of faculty to 31 and their contribution to research. Sharing with the audience the status of construction work on the IIM-Amritsar campus, he stated that the first phase of the construction would be completed by March next year to accommodate 600 students.
