In a significant move to enhance international academic collaboration, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) welcomed a delegation from the United States comprising representatives from prominent colleges, universities and minority-serving institutions. The visit aimed to explore urban sustainability issues in India and foster educational partnerships.

GNDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Karmjeet Singh highlighted Amritsar’s importance as the spiritual centre of Sikhism and emphasised Sikhism’s values of peace, coexistence and environmental sustainability.

The delegation included renowned academicians such as Dr Jessica Barnes (Northern Arizona University), Dr Norris Delgado (St University, Chicago), Dr Nelson Andrew Stephen (University of North Texas), Dr Christine Noorlander (Florida), and others. They engaged with GNDU officials in discussions centered on teaching, research and innovation.

Prof Amarjeet Sawhney, an architect from Dade University, Florida, led discussions about strengthening ties between GNDU and US-based institutions. He emphasised the need for fostering international relations and providing a platform for collaborative dialogues between GNDU faculty and the visiting delegation.

Prof Palwinder Singh, Dean of Academic Affairs at GNDU, hosted open discussions, gaining valuable insights into the delegates’ experiences in the field of education. The visit is expected to pave the way for stronger ties between India and the US in the realm of higher education. “This initiative will create new opportunities for academic exchange and research collaborations, furthering the shared commitment to global educational excellence,” Prof Sawhney remarked.
