Valentine's Day: Amritsar celebrates love in all forms
Valentine’s Day is all about making a statement. While many prefer to stick to the basics and get roses, chocolates and cute little gifts in place for those they love, a few do understand the day and what it signifies, not really restricting themselves to just one relationship. So, celebrating love, in a different way, these few have dedicated the day for the emotion itself, not any particular individual.
For the romantics, it’s a day worth expressing love without hesitation. “While it has become subjective, the day represents love whether for oneself or any other being. For me, it’s about spending a day doing special things for my parents and family,” shares Preeti Dawar, who spent the day with her daughter, Gurleen, who works overseas. Visiting for holidays, Preeti and Gurleen spent the day pampering each other with gifts and favourite homemade food.
Ananya Arora, a student from GNDU, spent the day with her furry pal, Bruno. Spending the entire day with her pet labrador, the 20-year-old said that the two-year-old pug is her special someone. “I buy gifts for him, pamper him a lot and just be with him. Valentine’s is about expressing love and I do that for Bruno,” she said.
But of course, the primary target audience for Valentines, the couples who are all hearts for each other, celebrated the day treating each other with candlelight dinners and surprises. Several city-based hotels and restaurants offered candle-lit dinners with live music and offers to pamper couples, who just might find a reason to celebrate true love. For others, it’s just another day gone by!
