Violence against medical professionals discussed

A medical conference was organised by the Amritsar Medical Association (AMA) here on Sunday evening. Panel discussions and paper presentations were part of the conference in which apart from the medical fraternity, MLAs Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh and Dr Ajay Gupta, Mayor Karmjit Singh Rintu, Commissioner of Police Arun Pal Singh, Guru Nanak Dev University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu, SGRD University of Health Sciences VC Dr Daljit Singh and other dignitaries also participated.
Dr Ashok Uppal, AMA President, said apart from medical issues, the rising incidents of violence against medical professionals were widely discussed during the event. He added that with elected representatives and senior officials of the civil and police administration present, the medical fraternity got a platform to voice their concerns and fears.
The doctors said many a times, the doctors were not only blamed by the relatives of a patient for no fault of theirs, but even the police and the civil administration too consider it easy to take action against them.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Surinder Singh said the civil and police administration were committed to provide a violence-free environment to all residents, including doctors.
Police Commissioner Arunpal Singh too asked the medical fraternity to work without any fear and promised that all genuine complaints from the doctors would be taken on priority.
The AMA also honoured senior doctors from the city, including Dr BL Goyal, Dr Niti Rajan, Dr Madhu Nagpal, Dr Jasjit Chhachi, Dr Navpreet Singh, Dr AP Singh, Dr Bhim Sen and Dr NS Anand.
