Voice of Amritsar patron honoured

Renowned philanthropist and professor of surgery Dr Rakesh Sharma was bestowed the ‘Service of Humanity’ award by an organisation dedicated to the memory of famous comedian and satirist Jaspal Bhatti, Idiots Club.

Dr Sharma, who is the patron of the NGO Voice of Amritsar was instrumental in its conception during the days of civil society movement initiated by Anna Hazare in the year 2011. VOA had been running various campaigns like tree plantation, gifting school stationary to needy kids, providing ration to the poor and destitute, cleanliness drives and providing medical aid to the poor.

Humbled by the prestigious award, Dr Sharma said that his objective has always been to be of service to mankind while performing his duties. He said that every human being, irrespective of his economic or social condition can contribute to making this world a better place.
